Emphasis and Focal Point

Whole over parts
  • A definite focal point
  • The main focal point of this is the entrance way.
  • (How the ceiling opens up, the different patter on the floor directly in the middle, and the only lighting fixture in the room is in the middle)

Ways to achieve emphasis
 Contrast
  • The emphasis is through color and organization
  • (The yellow in the carpet draws the eyes to the middle of the floor)

 Isolation
  •  Setting something off by itself to grab attention to a certain area
  • The way the dining set is set aside from everything else let's everyone know that this is the dining room although it is a an open floor plan.

 Placement
  • Putting something in a certain place creates emphasis
  •  The chair is placed in the area but farther away than anything else therefore making it an emphasis point.
